Go to: Application Form (closed on Sun June 8 at 5 pm)
It’s that time of year again – the application period for the annual WNDX One Take Super 8 Event is now open! No movie will ever be easier to make!
WNDX’s One Take Super-8 Event is a legendary incubator of new works in Manitoba, supporting early career and established filmmakers alike. Films completed for prior editions of the WNDX event have gone on to be selected for screening at TIFF, Rotterdam, Slamdance, Hot Docs, ImagineNATIVE, Images, Antimatter, and the Not Short on Talent showcase at Cannes, among others.
- The application for the selection lottery opens Mon June 2 at 10 am
- The application process closes Sun June 8 at 5 pm
- The lottery selection will be announced on WNDX’s website on Tue June 10 by 12 noon
- Registration is open to Manitoba residents
- The program has been reduced to 20 total spots this year, due to circumstances outside of our control
Selected filmmakers / teams will pay the applicable registration fee by e-transfer to info@wndx.org:
- B&W film stock (Tri-X 7266 200D): $105
- Colour film stock (Ektachrome 7294 100D) : $125
The registration fee covers a portion of the material costs of participation, including the selected film stock, film developing, shipping, digital transfer to HD, plus access to a WNDX super-8 camera for three days. WNDX subsidizes the remainder of the costs. Once the registration fee is paid, there will be no refunds.
Filmmakers are free to use their own cameras or rent cameras from other organizations, if preferred. However, there will not be a discount in the registration fee in this circumstance.
Films are then shot in one take (no cuts, no splices – the only type of editing that is allowed is in-camera work) and filmmakers view their works for the first time at the final event screening at the WNDX Festival of Moving Image, alongside the audience.
The shot super-8 film cartridges have to be returned to WNDX (Artspace building, room 406) by Fri Aug 22 at 5 pm – there will be absolutely no extensions. Drop-off times must be booked by advance appointment as the office is not regularly staffed.
The final screening will take place Thu Oct 2 at 7 PM at the Gas Station Theatre. This screening will be immediately followed by the 20 x 25 One Take Retrospective screening at 9 PM, curated by One Take Super-8 Event founder, Saskatoon’s Alex Rogalski.
All participating filmmakers whose work is screened at the WNDX festival will be paid a screening fee.
