WNDX’s One Take Super-8 Event is a legendary program and is the longest running incubator of new works in Manitoba, supporting early career and established filmmakers alike!
Films completed for prior editions of the WNDX event have gone on to be selected for screening at TIFF, Rotterdam, Slamdance, Hot Docs, ImagineNATIVE, Images, Antimatter, and the Not Short on Talent showcase at Cannes, among others.
KEY DETAILS
- Application window: Mon June 1 (10 am) to Sun June 7 (5 pm)
- Program open to: Manitoba Residents
- Selection announcement: Tues June 9, at 12 noon
- Registration fee: Selected participants need to pay the applicable registration fee by Mon June 15 (5 pm), or their spot will be given to the next person on the waiting list. Payment is to be made by e-transfer to info@wndx.org. Once the registration fee is paid, there will be no refunds!
○ B&W film stock (Tri-X 7266 200D): $105
○ Colour film stock (Ektachrome 7294 100D) : $125
○ The registration fee covers a portion of the material costs of participation, including the selected film stock, film developing, shipping, digital transfer to HD, plus access to a WNDX super-8 camera for three days. WNDX subsidizes the remainder of the program costs.
- Program orientation: Early July (date/time TBC), in the Artspace boardroom; the session is optional
- Equipment: Use of a WNDX super-8 camera for up to 3 days is included in the registration fee, however, participants are free to use their own equipment
- Shooting period: Confirmed participants will be able to shoot their films during the summer, according to their own schedule; filming typically takes between an hour to a couple of days
○ Films are then shot in one take (no cuts, no splices – the only type of editing that is allowed is in-camera work), and filmmakers view their works for the first time at the final event screening at the WNDX Festival of Moving Image, alongside the audience.
- Final screening: During the 21st WNDX Festival of Moving Image, Nov 12-15; the exact timeslot is TBC
- Screening fee: All participating filmmakers whose work is screened at the WNDX festival will be paid a screening fee.
