It’s that time of year again – the sign up for the annual WNDX One Take Super 8 Event is upon us! No movie will ever be easier to make!
The One Take Super-8 Event is one of the most important incubators for new works in Manitoba. Films completed for prior editions of the Winnipeg event have gone on to be selected for screening at Slamdance, Hot Docs, Images Festival, Antimatter, the Artifact Film Festival, among many more.
There are a total of 30 spots for this year’s One Take Super-8 Event. After the registration period is closed, a randomized lottery will be held on Fri Jun 7 to determine which filmmakers will receive the 20 highly coveted open spots! (Ten spots from the program’s total 30 spots are reserved for the Winnipeg Indigenous Filmmakers Collective and the Black Film Collective, sponsored this year by the Harbour Collective.)
Selected participants will pay a $100 registration fee, which covers the material costs of the program: B&W film stock (sorry, no colour stock this year!), processing, digital transfer and shipping expenses.
KEY DATES:
- Mon May 27 – Fri Jun 7: Registration period open > go to the REGISTRATION FORM
- Fri Jun 7: Selection lottery
- Fri Jun 14: Super-8 film stock available for pick-up and camera rentals commence
- Fri Jun 14 – Mon Aug 20: Films are then shot in one take (no cuts, no splices – only in-camera editing is allowed
- Monday Aug 26: Shot film cartridges to be submitted to the Winnipeg Film Group’s 3rd floor production office by this date – absolutely no extensions will be provided
- Sun Oct 6: Filmmakers view their works for the first time, alongside the audience, at the final screening at the Manitoba Museum Auditorium
All participating filmmakers whose work is screened at the WNDX festival will be paid a screening fee.
